A Bit About Ray Rhys Phillips
Ray Rhys Phillips is a YA author, who currently lives in Bristol, England. Born in the Rhondda Valley in Wales, Ray can’t remember a time where they didn’t love reading and writing. As well as a love for video games and Disney movies, Ray loves being surrounded by stories.
Their favourite types of books are long, action-packed series’, mysteries, fantasy, and occasionally a mushy love story. Having grown up with Harry Potter, Skulduggery Pleasant, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and The Spiderwick Chronicles, Ray always found it hard to keep a story short. During a Year Six writing exercise, they were made to stay inside during lunch to finish the story they were writing (which, of course, was not a punishment at all.)
Ray has a BA in Creative Writing, and an MA in Writing for Young People, both from Bath Spa University.
Ray came out as trans-nonbinary during university, and has since made it a mission to normalise LGBT characters in all children’ fiction.
Other hobbies include going to conventions and showing off their handmade costumes that never turn out right but are always made from love, doing doodles of their characters, and procrastinating with Dungeons and Dragons.
